We have a long and storied history as a not-for-profit mission driven community agency at the heart of which is the 5th Commandment “Honor thy father and thy mother so that your days might be long upon the earth”.  Serving older people with Jewish needs was an original goal of the Ladies' Hebrew Sheltering Aid Society which was founded in 1922. With the purchase of land and a stately mansion in Jacksonville’s Riverside area in 1946, River Garden Hebrew Home was founded.

Since then The Home has been providing award winning care to Jacksonville’s senior community. In 1946 the Home opened with 12 residents. Dedicated and visionary lay leadership led fundraising drives in 1955, 1963, and 1969 that allowed the home to expand and serve a growing population. By 1969 its capacity had grown to 180 beds. The Home relocated in 1989 to its present location on the beautifully landscaped 35-acre campus in Jacksonville’s Mandarin area.

Anchored by the nursing home, River Garden’s campus is now the center of the River Garden system of elder care programs and services. These services include:  skilled nursing and rehabilitation  care, traditional long-term care, independent retirement living, adult day care, geriatric assessment and/or counseling,  comprehensive  outpatient/inpatient rehabilitative therapy, comprehensive geriatric case management on campus and in the community, the River Garden Home Health Agency and the Albert Z. Fleet Geriatric Training Center at River Garden.

The Home is a five-time recipient of Florida’s prestigious “Governor’s Gold Seal Award for Excellence in Long Term Care” and is 5-Star rated by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

River Garden is certified as a Medicare and Medicaid provider and fully licensed by the State of Florida as a skilled nursing facility.
