Volunteer Service
Volunteers play a vital role in making the River Garden campus the caring community it is. Our volunteers come from different backgrounds and for them their work with River Garden is part of a personal commitment to serving others. Volunteers enhance residents’ lives each day whether visiting one on one with a resident, conducting programs and activities or assisting with special events and parties. At the center of everything are our residents. Our goal is to ensure our residents’ lives are as full, enjoyable and independent as they can be. Our volunteers are a dynamic group of men and women who give so much of themselves yet insist they are the ones who truly receive.
Registered Volunteer:
These adult volunteers come into the Home on a weekly basis and help in virtually every area of the Home including assisting with activities, friendly visiting, mend clothing, Gift Shop, clerical work, and transporters for residents in wheelchairs.
Registered volunteers may pursue Certified Volunteer status. The River Garden Certified Volunteer Program is open to all River Garden volunteers. This is an innovative volunteer program which makes the volunteers’ time even more valuable to the residents and staff of River Garden. It allows staff and/or outside professionals to in-service volunteers in specific areas enabling volunteers to either be more effective or capable of doing certain tasks and programming in their assigned duties which require a specific skill set.
Shabbat volunteers:
These volunteers make up Shabbat teams who alternate coming to River Garden for services rather than their normal place of worship. This program brings the community into River Garden allowing residents to enjoy services as part of a congregation giving to each the benefit of affirming Jewish identity as part of, not apart from, the community.
Junior Volunteer Program:
The River Garden Junior Volunteer Program is designed for young people ages 13 – 17 and runs for eight weeks during summer break from school beginning in June each year. This intergenerational program plays an important role in enriching the lives of our residents as well as providing a valuable life experience for our young leaders of tomorrow.
